The Ramón y Cajal University Hospital in Madrid hosted the 1st Conference on Geriatrics and Hospital Pharmacy, a meeting organised by the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SEGG) and the Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy (SEFH) to discuss teamwork between geriatricians and pharmacists, medication in geriatric syndromes and controversial clinical situations such as psychotropic drugs in advanced dementia, anticoagulation of chronic atrial fibrillation in very advanced age and drug withdrawal in advanced Alzheimer's disease.
Our colleague, Alex Ferro, a specialist pharmacist at Matia Fundazioa, is one of the speakers taking part in this meeting to talk about polypharmacy and the prescription of medicines to elderly people living in an institution.
