Webinar: HAPPI Hour - Pioneering Urban Design for Later Living

  Date:
20/12/2022
 Type: Webinar
Line of Knowledge: Active aging and friendliness
 Location: Online

This HAPPI Hour session will present key lessons learned from an Innovate UK funded project involving Housing LIN. Led by Cartwright Pickard architects, the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the Royal College of Art will report on innovative new typologies of Later Living mixed-use housing for urban sites in the UK.

Drawing on a selection of UK and international case studies, the session will share findings and present examples where the development of affordable housing for the elderly harnesses smart home technology within a well-connected urban community, tackling loneliness among older people, reducing the burden of bed blocking on the NHS and helping to regenerate town centres.

We will be joined by architect Elisa Pozo, from Mita Atelier and Fundación Matia in Madrid, who will talk about her new book: "Urban Design and Planning for Age-Friendly Environments across Europe: North and South".

Finally, we will also be joined by the DesHCA project from the University of Stirling to learn more about using VR to collaborate with builders, architects and housing providers to identify practical, realistic and affordable designs that can support healthy cognitive ageing.
