"Euskadi Lagunkoia" is a project of the Department of Employment and Social Policies of the Basque Government in collaboration with Matia Instituto, which aims to promote the participation of citizens and the public, private and social sectors to develop a movement of friendliness in the promotion of facilitating living environments for people who are ageing. 

There are currently more than 60 cities and towns throughout the Basque Country that are members of this Network and more than 800 included in the WHO World Network.

With this conference, organised by the Imserso, the aim is for people to learn about the discrimination suffered by the elderly from a scientific-technical point of view, what types of discrimination there are, where it manifests itself most intensely, what its consequences are, what types of discrimination there are, what studies exist on this problem, what instruments exist to combat it, etc.

According to the data published so far, the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has severely affected older people, especially those living in residential centres. The vulnerability and poor prognosis of the disease in this population group has led to the implementation of more restrictive preventive measures of confinement, isolation and social distancing than in any other group, accompanied by ageist attitudes that are determinant in essential issues such as treatment or access to services by older people.
