The course is aimed at people -professionals and volunteers- who work in the field of direct intervention with people in a situation or at risk of social exclusion. The aim of this course is to lay the theoretical foundations of intervention in the field of social exclusion from the social services, based on the models of quality of life and person-centred care.

Society is constantly evolving, presenting new needs that professionals must face. What is the 21st century patient like? Is the profession prepared for new changes? To what extent can public bodies help to respond to these new needs?

These are some of the questions that will be addressed in the 2nd session of the Nursing and Progress Cycle promoted by the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Navarra, in which a group of directors of nursing will debate at a round table on the new dynamics arising between nursing professionals and society in the 21st century.

Latin America and the Caribbean is the fastest ageing region in the world. This creates opportunities to improve the quality of life of older adults, create new jobs for caregivers, promote gender equity and reduce healthcare costs, among others. At the same time, it brings with it important challenges, including the need for financial protection (pensions), and access to quality health services and support for people with functional dependency.

The progressive increase of people in a situation of vulnerability AND dependency in today's developed societies and more specifically in rural areas such as the province of Cuenca where, due to depopulation, the elderly are becoming lonely and in need in their own homes or in senior citizen centres or centres especially for people with some kind of disability, has become a problem with an important economic and social dimension that must be tackled by the different administrations through appropriate and efficient public policies.
