Building a new country: European funds at the service of social innovation

Institutional appointment organized by the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 of the Government of Spain in which twenty social innovation projects are presented, involving more than one hundred pioneering organizations in processes of social transformation, in the field of care and support for the elderly, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, children and youth and models of community care in rural areas.

Currently, many of these services for people with greater support needs are provided in large institutions and the aim of the future Strategy is precisely to try to promote services that enable people to live independently and autonomously in their family, social and community environment.

The future Strategy for De-institutionalisation and development of community support services aims to prioritise personalised care in the community.

Spain is one of the developed countries most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and one of the worst performers in terms of the number of deaths in care homes. Between March and August 2020, at least half of the people who died in Spain with covid-19 or compatible symptomatology died in these centres, which in 2019 were the habitual residence of more than three hundred thousand people.

The challenges of Alzheimer and dementias

To call for a political commitment to make Alzheimer's a strategic priority in the scientific, health and care fields, and to prioritise research as the only way to beat the disease, we are organising, together with the Spanish Neurology Society (SEN), the Spanish Alzheimer's Confederation (CEAFA), the Matia Foundation and HelpAge, the event "The challenges of Alzheimer's and dementias" in the Congress of Deputies this coming Monday, 13 September, at 10 am, in the Ernest Lluch Room.
