III Mid-Term Conference of the Urban Sociology Research Network 37 of European Sociological Association
It is not possible to ignore the fact that cities are not only vibrant, thriving, moving spaces that promise hope for a better quality of life, but also accumulate and reflect significant problems. We need to recognise the complexity of economic, political, social, cultural and environmental mechanisms that reinforce existing inequalities and add great uncertainty to life in cities and urban spaces in the globalised world. We want to better understand the impact and consequences of inequality and uncertainty in the urban realm as well as the responses to current challenges in terms of both informal and institutional practices.
These are the main aspects addressed in this conference entitled: "Inequality and uncertainty: current challenges for cities", in which Elena del Barrio, technical manager of the Euskadi Lagunkoia project, will speak about how this initiative promotes the participation of older people, favouring a more active and empowered citizenship.
