The concept of "Ageing in place", which has influenced ageing policies since the 1990s, nowadays goes hand in hand with the notion of age-friendliness. To promote ageing at home, spaces must be designed in a friendly way, taking into account the needs of ageing people.
Paula García
Sociocultural Anthropologist, she completed a Master's Degree in Physical Anthropology: Human Evolution and Biodiversity and a Master's Degree in Community Social Work: Management and Evaluation of Social Services. She carried out all her studies at the UCM. Director of Social Services Centres (registered as such with the Department of Social Affairs of the Community of Madrid in 2013).
She carried out an international stay in Santiago de Chile in 2013 at CETRAM (Centre for Movement Disorders) and on her return she co-founded and co-directed CUIDE, an organisation dedicated to specialised care for people with dependency and carers. She has been a speaker at congresses, conferences and postgraduate courses in the field of social services and has published related articles.
She is currently finalising her doctoral thesis on "Person-Centred Quality Care in care homes for the elderly: Analysis of the 'En mi casa' model in Castilla y León as a good practice applicable to other autonomous communities" and has been teaching on the Master's Degree in Dependency, Public Policy and Social Innovation for the Elderly (UCM) since its inception in 2020. She works at Matia Instituto as a researcher on projects related to the implementation of new housing models based on PCC.
